Just in, Houston Texans to draft NC State DE Mario Williams
"With the first pick in the NFL Draft the Houston Texans select DE Mario Williams from NC State".
That's what you can expect to hear come early saturday afternoon when NFL Commissioner Paul Taligabue takes the podeum to announce the first pick.
This comes as a great suprise because many had pegged RB Reggie Bush as the top pick on saturday. But the Texans already have a pretty decent running back in Dominick Davis who has run for over 1,000 yards his first three seasons. So this makes sense in that you build a championship team starting with defense so that's what Houston is doing with this pick. Mario has been picked to be the next Julius Peppers, an oversized beast that can play all over the field.
This throws a wrench into analyst draft forecast as they had Reggie going first and Mario in the 4th or later slot. Question now becomes how far will Reggie Bush drop in the draft. The Saints at #2 already have Deuce McAllister at RB, Titans at #3 need a QB and will take either Leinart or Young. He could fall to either the NY Jets, though they have Curtis Martin he is getting up in age for a RB or he could land with the Packers and they could use Bush having lost two RB's to season ending injurys and used a non drafted RB for the last 8 weeks or so.
The fun has just begun, I'm sure saturday there will be even more suprises and players dropping.
Happy 2006 NFL Draft season, it's shaping up to be quite interesting.

Forgot to add, Houston has signed Mario to a 6 year, $54 million deal.
How about a new write up sometime soon?
